I recently landed my latest open-source contribution to the ControlCore-Project, and it just got merged! My pull request, titled "Remove outdated concore copies from testsou to prevent divergence (#289)", focused on tackling some legacy technical debt in the repository.
Basically, the test directory (testsou) was holding onto duplicate, outdated copies of the main concore module. This duplication was causing code divergence and confusing test failures whenever the core library was updated. To fix this, I wiped out those redundant copies and refactored the tests to import directly from the central concore source.
The code review process was super encouraging. One of the maintainers kindly pointed out that a few integration tests broke after my changes because they were secretly relying on a bug present only in the old concore copies. We had a friendly back-and-forth on GitHub, and they guided me on how to update those test assertions to match the current, fixed core behavior.
Through this PR, I learned a huge lesson about the Single Source of Truth (SSOT) principle in software engineering. As a student, I usually focus on building shiny new features, but this experience proved that code cleanup and eliminating duplication are just as vital for a healthy, maintainable codebase. I can't wait to grab my next issue!
